State representative Ron Sandack, a major Republican lawmaker in Illinois has announced his resignation from the Illinois House, citing “cybersecurity issues” that he has faced in recent days.
Ron Sandack is a well-known figure in Illinois politics as a floor leader for Republicans in the Illinois House. He was due to partake in a re-election race this November and is also known for his extensive use of social media platforms Twitter and Facebook.
However, Sandack has resigned and has since stepped down, citing “cyber security issues” as the problem. Notably, his Facebook account is still down after his social media accounts vanished last week.
“It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve the people of the 81st district for the past four years in Springfield,” Sandack said in a statement, before adding:
But after some cyber security issues arose, I began to re-evaluate my continued public service.
The departure makes for an intriguing turn of events for a politician who was finishing a second term in the Illinois House following a stint in the state’s Senate. Sandack’s departure from the high-profile role is all the more remarkable given the reason for his resignation in cybersecurity.
Sandack’s resignation was effective Sunday. He further added, “I have always recognized there is no greater privilege than being a father and husband. My duties in Springfield has meant missing a lot of events in the lives of my children. I am no longer willing to miss important family events.”
No further details of his resignation or the underlying “cyber security issues” have been revealed. Sandack has been contacted by major news outlets including the Associate Press for additional comment but no additional details have been revealed so far.
